The Real Cost of Debt: Filipino Women on the frontlines against the debt and climate crisis

There can be no #DebtJustice without #ClimateJustice. This is abundantly clear in countries like the Philippines, where rebuilding from devastating natural disasters has added to the debt burden and led to the highest national debt levels for 20 years.

Additionally, more than a third of national income is spent on repaying domestic and external creditors, leaving insufficient public resources to invest in climate adaptation and recovery. The burden then falls on Filipino women.

In the 2nd of our #RealCostOfDebt series, the women of Quezon City tell their stories of rebuilding their lives, how they have been largely abandoned by the government, and how they are mobilising against policies that prioritise debt repayments over the needs and safety of everyday Filipinos.
