A protest action was held in Dhaka demanding tax justice on January 20 in front of the National Press Club to call for tax justice, led by the Bangladesh Krishok Federation – BKF together with workers’ organizations, students, and communities affected by regressive tax policies in Bangladesh.
The movements added that unfair tax burdens on women and the youth must be addressed to fight inequality. Bangladesh Krishok Foundation chair Badrul Alam underlined the urgency of abolishing the anti-poor Value Added Tax (MUSAC) or VAT and the need to institute a wealth tax. They called on Bangladesh’s government to stop tax avoidance by corporations and put an end to revenue-eroding tax incentives.
