APMDD convened the Tax and Fiscal Justice Asia (TaFJA) Coordinating Committee (CC) planning meeting last September 14-15 in Manila to share updates on tax-related work in the countries and region and discuss ways of strengthening the alliance and its work. At the close of the two-day meeting, organizations reaffirmed commitment to the alliance and the areas and issues for joint work.
The CC resolved to activate working groups on the following: 1. Tax Justice and Extractives; 2. Tax Justice and Gender; 3. Illicit Financial Flows and Multinational Corporations; and 4. Double Taxation Agreements.
It was also decided that TaFJA will also pursue exchanges of analysis, updates, and explore future joint activities on Climate Change and Tax Justice; regressive taxes such as VAT and GST; IMF Tax Policies;Tax, Public Services and Human Rights, and Tax Issues in Infrastructure Investments.
The CC also resolved to adopt TAFJA as the new name of the alliance. Launched in 2014, the alliance used to be known as the Asian Fiscal and Tax Justice Alliance (AFTJA).
The TaFJA website and Facebook page will be launched by yearend.
