Advocates from various organizations involved in the World Bank Out of Climate Finance Campaign exposed and rejected the attempt by the US and other Annex 1 countries to turn the Green Climate Fund (GCF) into a "Greedy Corporate Fund" that would allow multinational corporations and the financial industry to directly access GCF financing.
Eighteen Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) led by EquityBD formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on October 9 demanding that the government place all climate funds under a single autonomous board and keep the World Bank out of climate finance.
A press conference was organized by Sushasoner Jonny Pracharavizan (SUPRO) on October 10 at the Conference Room of Dhaka Reporters Unity to announce the organization's actions during the Global Week of Action vs Debt and IFIs. The Campaign for Climate Justice Network (CCJN) organized a demonstration against the role of the World Bank in climate finance near the bank's office in Kathmandu on October 12. The protest action was part of the Global Week of Action Against Debt and IFIs, which was observed in many parts of the world.
