World Bank’s Withdrawal of Padma Bridge Loan is Against the People
Protesting the unjust debt and foreign aid as well as the undue interference of International Financial Institutions (IFIs) like the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Asian Development Bank (ADB), Sushasoner Jonny Pracharavizan – SUPRO organized a Human Chain on 3 July, 2012 in front of the National Press Club.
The Dhaka Campaign Group and other like-minded organizations expressed their solidarity in the protest action. Criticizing the World Bank's recent decision to withdraw the Padma Bridge Loan, speakers called the bank a non-transparent and autocratic organization. They said the World Bank's withdrawal of the loan signified that it is against the people rather than corruption.
Kazi Shafiqur rahman, Coordinator of SUPRO, moderated the program of the human chain while SUPRO General Secretary M A Quader, SUPRO EC Member KGM Faruk, SUPRO National Council Member Madhob Chandra Dutt, Deputy Director of SUPRO Abu Ala Mahmudul Hasan, Coordinators of SUPRO Mousumi Biswas and Saif Uddin Ahmed delivered speeches. Dhaka Campaign Group member Unnoti Rani also gave a solidarity message.
Media Associate Coordinator Md. Shariful Islam and representatives from other organizations participated in the activity.
