APMDD co-sponsored and participated in a “Roundtable on Reforms in International Taxation and Financial Transparency: Towards a Regional Agenda for Asia” last November 21, 2016 in New Delhi.  The Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA) and Financial Transparency Coalition (FTC) led in organizing this event.

Asian tax justice alliance joins GATJ reps in Action Aid – Oxfam Tax Justice Together Campaigners’ Conference

TAFJA (through Mae Buenaventura of APMDD and Rakesh Mittal of INSAF) participated in the “Tax Justice Together” Campaigners’ Conference last 22-23 November in Warsaw, Poland. The conference is part of the Tax Justice Together project of Action Aid and Oxfam, aimed primarily at “putting tax justice at the heart of the European agenda”.  We were invited as a regional alliance together with other representatives of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ) to contribute to the following objectives of the project:

APMDD inputs tax justice lens into international workshop on social protection

"Tax justice opens concrete opportunities for claiming urgently needed resources in tax protection." This was the main message of APMDD’s contribution at the "Workshop on Expanding on Social Protection Towards Addressing Inequality and Increasing Vulnerabilities under ASEAN Integration" held in Vietnam last 13-14 October 2016.

World Bank must stop funding fossil fuels - Asian movements

MANILA, Philippines, 11 October 2016 –The day before the annual meeting of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) took place in Washington DC, the Asian Peoples Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) joined its members in the Philippines – the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ), the Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC), SANLAKAS and other groups - in holding a protest action last October 7 outside the W​orld B​ank office in Manila, demanding the Bank to end its fossil fuel investment.

International Forum on Tax Justice

Last September 16, APMDD organized the International Forum on Tax Justice, in cooperation with the organizations in the AFTJA Coordinating Committee to discuss challenges and initiatives on various tax justice issues which include Women and Gender Justice in Tax Systems; Tax Justice and Extractive Industries; Tax Justice and International Agreements (DTAs and FTAs); Illicit Financial Flows and Tax Abuses of Multinational Corporations; and Trade Unions and Workers' Movements Initiatives on Tax Issues.
